Should I Book a Professional Wedding Photographer or Get a Friend to do it for Free? A Cautionary Tale… · Rock n Roll Bride

Reblogging this excellent article, because I couldn’t say it any better myself!  If you don’t have time to read it all, just click the link and scroll down to the pictures, which will explain almost everything.

The short story is, the couple asked one of their friends to photograph their wedding.  He had a nice camera, and was great at photographing cars, but weddings are a completely different situation (as they eventually learned).  Click the link below for the whole story (and pictures):

What’s really sad, is that this unfortunate couple was too embarrassed to show anyone their wedding pictures; and these were the only pictures they had.

What Happens When a Supermodel Violates Your Copyright

I don’t usually re-blog, but this is such a great story about COPYRIGHT.
A single image used without permission can so quickly end up all over the web and even in a magazine.

The Greyest Ghost

This post is something I’ve struggled with for months, and debated even writing. But it’s time to share my story, and explain why I’ve been absent.

Basically, the short version is Karlie Kloss improperly used one of my images. It showed up on her instagram account last September, without credit. (Point of reference: many of the images before and after mine are credited.)

As readers of my blog will know, I shoot as a house photographer for Oscar de la Renta’s social media accounts and Pinterest page. On September 10, 2013 I took this photo of Karlie Kloss taking a “selfie” backstage at the SS14 Oscar de la Renta show:

No other photographers were in the makeup area at the time, guaranteeing this was an exclusive shot.

When I got home, I posted it as part of my daily “sneak peek” show recap.

Seattle RAW Artists – Post Apocalyptic Steampunk

This was a great show.

Before I begin, I must apologize to all the Steampunk purists out there, because this does not faithfully represent the ‘traditional’ image of Steampunk.

…but I can explain:

Due to a faulty mechanism, our time machine suffered several tremendous malfunctions, and our journey became threaded between multiple time portals.
The results were not at all glamorous.

At some point in the future, a great war between man and machine breaks out.  We arrived at a time after the great war had finally ended.

Something happened during the battle.  Both man and machine were fused together.  Still enemies, but now coexisting as one.  Learning how to cope with each other, while surviving on what little remains there were after the war.

Our involuntary journey brought us here, to witness the painful struggle of a new beginning.
We brought some of it back with us on March 23rd 2013.

This is Post Apocalyptic Steampunk.

Planning for our next trip!

Preparing for our San Francisco Road-Trip Photo Shoot

Two days from now we’ll be on a plane, leaving for our second Road-Trip Photo Shoot destination (third if we count the Las Vegas wedding).  This time, it’s San Francisco.

Lots of pre-planning was involved for this trip, and more luggage than ever before, as we’re packing supplies/etc for at least 10 themed shoots.  No, we’re not flying Delta this time, after they charged $200 each way to check just my lighting case (and then sent it to Honolulu without us).  Not to mention the cost of checking all of our other luggage.

Yesterday I picked up an extra suitcase, because we’ll need just a little bit more for this trip!

2012-12 Madison WisconsinHere’s what we brought to Madison Wisconsin for our last Road-Trip Photo Shoot.
I hope we don’t forget anything this time!

There will be pictures and anecdotes, for sure!
